1. Introduction

This agreement sets out the Terms and Conditions upon which a place has been offered to your child. By accepting a place for your child as a student you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. We have endeavoured to draft this document in clear language, free, where possible, from legal jargon. It is, however, legally binding on both Thomas Keith Independent School (Thomas Keith Limited of Room 7B, One Capital Place, 18 Luard Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.) and you. In this document, the term ‘parents’ is frequently used. Guardians are included within the meaning of that word.

2. Duration

This agreement will remain in force until your child concludes the end of Year 11 and all fees have been paid. If your child joins in Year 12 or 13 then the agreement remains in force until your child reaches the end of Year 13 and all fees have been paid in accordance with Condition 5 below.

3. Authority of the Headteacher

Parents authorise the Headteacher of Thomas Keith Independent School or their nominated deputy to take such action as the Headteacher may consider being in the best interests of the student on a day-to-day basis.

4. Provision of Education

Thomas Keith Independent School will do all that is reasonable to provide an educational environment and teaching of a range, standard and quality which is suitable for each student.

5. School Fees

The fees and other expenses are payable and the timing of such fees is set out on the Thomas Keith Independent School website.

Thomas Keith Independent School makes every effort to hold fees stable for each school year. However, Thomas Keith Independent School reserves the right to increase fees at any time; any increase will be notified to you at least thirty (30) days before the increase takes effect. The liability to pay fees and all other expenses is the joint and several liabilities of the people who have agreed to our Terms and Conditions.

A student whose fees have not been paid in full or in accordance with an agreed fee payment plan before the start of the term may at any time be excluded from attending until full payment is made. Parents are liable to pay all costs, fees, disbursements, and charges including legal fees and costs reasonably incurred by Thomas Keith Independent School in the recovery of any unpaid fees regardless of the value of the claim.

The fees for additional subjects taken at any level are not eligible for a discount or refund if the student discontinues the additional tuition during the course.

The Academic Deposit is a deposit that is only refundable upon completion of a school year, receipt of public exam results by the Headteacher, if applicable, and payment of any outstanding fees.

Notification to withdraw by telephone or any other means is not valid and we only accept an email from the registered parent or guardian. A Withdrawal Notice can only be retracted once, and there will be a charge equal to the Application Fee to reactivate the account.

We will charge you a new Application Fee and Academic Deposit should the student wish to remain at the school after the second retraction.

A Withdrawal Notice must be provided on or before the last day of the Half-Term if on a Pay-As-You-Go Contract, or on or before the last day of the school year if on an Annual Contract.

A Withdrawal Notice for the student to leave at the end of a school year must be received no later than the last day of timetabled classes for the school in that school year. This is necessary to allow the school to plan its staffing and other resources.

To avoid ambiguity, if a Withdrawal Notice is not received by the last day of timetabled classes for the school in the school year then the student will be deemed to be continuing for the following school year and the fees and notice clause (and all other Terms and Conditions) for the relevant school year will apply.

What is an online school?

Like conventional schools, students attend their classes live, but with a crucial distinction: all lessons take place online. There’s no need for them to commute to a physical school building. Instead, they access their lessons by logging into the Thomas Keith Independent School’s web portal a few minutes before the scheduled start time of their classes.

Teaching occurs in real-time in a digital classroom that comes equipped with a whiteboard, live video and audio streams from the teacher, and a chat box. During the course of the lesson, pupils can freely interact with their teacher and peers via the chat box or their microphone, as needed. They can even be given access to write and draw on the whiteboard. They submit assignments and receive feedback on them through the student portal, with the entire process being online.

Through an amalgamation of voice, text, whiteboard annotations, notes, recordings, presentations, and screen sharing, classes are made more engaging and interactive than in traditional school settings. Students can be assigned to complete specific exercises, share their work, or present to the class. Every pupil also has the opportunity for direct and private communication with their teacher, ensuring that nobody feels overlooked or left behind.
